Es ist ein Spätsommertag, mittags, ein Viertel vor eins, als Horst-Werner Nilges auf der B 243 durch die Stadt Herzberg fährt. Er ist auf dem Heimweg, im Kopf formuliert er bereits Anzeige 5017, die er zu Hause schreiben will, denn Anzeigen schreiben ist ein Hobby von ihm. Da sieht er den Rettungshubschrauber, halb auf dem Gehweg an der vierspurigen B 243 landet er, die Rotorblätter rattern noch nach, eine Arztpraxis hat den Hubschrauber angefordert, ein Mann hatte einen Herzstillstand erlitten, muss schnellstmöglich in die Klinik nach Göttingen geflogen werden. Etwa 15 Minuten ist die Straße in Richtung Osterode abgesperrt.

Nilges steigt aus seinem Wagen, zieht seine Digitalkamera, eine Ricoh Caplio R4, macht ein knappes Dutzend Fotos.

Drei Tage später setzt er sich an seinen Computer und schreibt ein Fax an den Leiter der Straßenverkehrsabteilung, Herrn Bündge. Er schreibt Anzeige 5017, es geht dabei eigentlich um einen Lieferwagen im Halteverbot, und weil er so gut dabei ist, gleich darunter: “Der Hubschrauber mit der Kennung D-HDRM ‘parkte’ zwischen 12:46 und 13:00 Uhr ‘behindernd’ im eingeschränkten Halteverbot / auf dem Gehweg und auf der B 243.”

Es gibt Leute, die haben zu viel Zeit…

See, if you could really break somebody out of a psychological shell with a single unsupervised trip led by a gruff tour guide in a leather jacket, we would fucking do that. That’s way easier than what we’re doing now.

But it’s not the implied insult toward the mental health profession that makes this so irritating. It’s the implication that in each crazy person, good mental health is lurking about one-inch beneath the surface, ready to be cured in a couple of days. So when somebody raised on these movies actually runs into an actual mentally ill person, they can’t help but wonder why they don’t just get over it already.
